Prior to purchasing a new or used lift truck, there are several factors that you must take into account. Think about the following things before making a decision.
Step 1: What are your requirements?
Knowing both the kinds and weight of your loads must be taken into consideration. Consider the maximum lifting height which you will need. Determine whether you would be using the forklift outdoors or indoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and estimate how much maneuvering space there is. What will be the duration of use every day when it comes to hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best alternative?
Purchasing a used forklift is a good idea if you would just use it four hours the most a day.
Step 3: Fuel options
As electric forklifts are fairly quiet and make no exhaust emissions, they are recommended for indoor applications. They have large batteries which could last eight hours before you need to recharge it. The cost of purchasing electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not require space for fuel storage. They also tend to last longer as they have fewer moving parts. However, the time it takes to recharge the battery must be factored in. This can as much as 16 hours, including recharging and cooling. And battery recharging stations may be needed.
Step 4: Tire choice
Cushion tires are utilized in forklifts. There are several options when it comes to tires. Several are fabricated of solid rubber, some are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor operation, cushion tires are recommended. For outdoor operation, pneumatic tires are best. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp objects so they are the best option for risky conditions.
Step 5: Think about additional alternatives
Additional options must be considered when purchasing a used or new forklift truck. Look at the different types of attachments which you may need to customize your forklift. Check out the safety features and ergonomics of the forklift
Step 6: Evaluate your choices
In order to find out what kind of forklift really suits your needs, renting different models and brands is a good idea. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This will ensure that the kind of forklift you finally purchase is the correct one for all your requirements. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
