Inventor Jerome Case founded the business of CASE in Racine, when he started the construction of threshing equipment. Later the business gained recognition globally as the first builder of steam engines for its agricultural use. By the year 1912, Case had become established within the construction machine industry. The quickly started to manufacture road building machines like steam rollers and graders. Case grew their construction machine business through different acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation in 1957. Case had expanded their business by the middle part of the 1990s to become the top manufacturer of medium-sized to light-sized construction machinery.
Case merged with the company New Holland in the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This business became responsible for marketing some of the top brands of construction and agricultural equipment in the world.
